What is a Mobile Notary Public? A Mobile Notary Public is a public servant appointed by the government to serve the public as an impartial witness in taking acknowledgements, administering oaths and affirmations, and performing other acts authorized by law, but cannot give legal advice. How much does a notarization cost? Fees vary and is mandated by state law. California law limits the amount to $10 per signature, but a mobile notary public may charge travel or other fees in addition to notarization cost. Generally, a a mobile notary public works for themselves and has travel, time, advertising, and printing fees. In addition to the notarization cost. certain brick and mortar companies offer several services besides a mobile notary public services, so they can survive. But, a mobile notary public does not have that option to offer other services. So, paying for convenience of a mobile notary public is definitely a positive I have over others companies.


May any document be notarized? No, a mobile notary public does not notarize documents with photographs or copies of documents such as academic records, birth certificates, or any other document that does not have a place for a person to sign. However, if the photograph or academic record is attached to a certification statement, a mobile notary public may notarize documents that contain a certification statement.  The document must also contain an original signature (not a photocopy) in order to notarize documents.  


May a Mobile Notary Public give legal advice or tell you which document to use? Absolutely not. A Mobile Notary Public is forbidden from acting as a legal advisor and cannot give legal advice unless he or she is also an attorney. Violators can be fined and/or jailed for the unauthorized practice of law. By giving legal advice.


Does notarization mean that a document is "true" or "legal"? No. A Mobile Notary Public is not responsible for the accuracy or legality of documents in order to notarize documents. A Mobile Notary Public may not give legal advice. A Mobile Notary Public can only certify the identity of signers. The signers are responsible for the content of the notarized documents.


Do I have to appear personally before the Notary Public to notarize documents? Yes. You should personally appear before a Mobile Notary Public at the time of notarization. To notarize documents. However, if you have a "Subscribing Witness," the "Subscribing Witness" must witness the signing of the document and must be known personally by a Mobile Notary Public person.


Can you notarize documents that contain blanks? No. A mobile notary public cannot notarize documents that are incomplete,  contains blanks, or is back dated.
